LEJ ON THE WEB
LEJ has a new face! An all-volunteer team from the Taproot
Foundation devoted nearly a year to a ground-up redesign of our website, making the navigation easier and bringing everything up to date.
Best of all, we can make all our changes in-house now, so you can expect regularly freshened content. Stop on by! And if you're on Facebook, join the brand-new LEJ Cause and the LEJ Group, and invite all
your friends. We love a crowd!

SF COASTAL CLEAN UP DAY
9 AM - 12 noon
Help Where Help is Needed!
California Coastal Cleanup Day is the premier volunteer event focused on the marine environment in the country, with 50,000 volunteers turning out to
over 700 cleanup sites statewide to remove debris from the shorelines and coast. Coming at the end of the summer beach season and near the start of
the school year, Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of the
environment, show community support for shared natural resources, and learn about the impacts of marine debris and how to prevent them -- and have
fun!
California Coastal Clean Up Day 2007 was the largest Clean Up day in the history of the event for both California and San Francisco, but we only
scratched the surface of a serious marine debris problem that disproportionately affects our city's eastern shoreline.
- 70% of 14,000 lbs. of trash was picked up on the East side of San Francisco
- 80% of 2,500 volunteers cleaned up on the West side of San Francisco
Please help us by encouraging your family and friends to volunteer at San Francisco's most impacted places. We are here to assist you in finding a
place that needs that extra help.
Together we can create a cleaner and more beautiful city for everyone.
Contact LEJ Outreach Coordinator Elsa Calvillo to
volunteer.
Celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2008, Literacy for Environmental Justice addresses the ecological and health concerns of Bayview
Hunters Point and the surrounding communities of southeast San Francisco. Please make a tax-deductible contribution today.
