HERON'S HEAD PARK WORKDAY

International Migratory Bird Day
Saturday, May 10

9 AM - 12 PM

Cargo Way & Jennings St.

What better way to spend International Migratory Bird Day and National Wetlands Month than creating wildlife habitat at Heron's Head Park!  We will be planting hundreds of seedlings that the LEJ youth and community volunteers have been propagating at the Native Plants Nursery.  We're also planning bird walks and a potluck barbecue; watch this space for details.

Wear appropriate clothing; gloves, boots, and tools are provided. Heavy rain cancels the workday.  All ages welcome. For more information, contact HHP Steward Myla Ablog.  LEJ's community stewardship and environmental education programs at Heron's Head Park are a partnership with the Port of San Francisco.

SAVE CANDLESTICK POINT!

Governor Schwarzenegger's FY 08-09 state budget proposes to close 48 state parks.  The list includes Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, one of the very few open spaces in Bayview Hunters Point and a critical wetland and wildlife habitat.  Candlestick is in the midst of a multi-year remediation and restoration project addressing acute contamination from industrial and military pollution.  LEJ's Native Plants Nursery at Candlestick trains youth interns from Bayview Hunters Point to grow the native plantstock for the Candlestick restoration project.  Closing the park throws the future of the remediation project as a whole into doubt; we urge you to find out more at  www.savestateparks.org and write to your legislators.
