Shakespeare in Action Workshops available for the Classroom or Boardroom

All year round, The Nashville Shakespeare Festival's teaching artists visit classrooms to enhance the teaching of Shakespeare’s works with participatory exercises designed to put the keys to unlocking the richness of great dramatic literature into the hands of students.  These workshops are customized to meet the individual needs and goals of each teacher and classroom.  Shakespeare in Action workshops are also available to adult groups, offering exercises in creative thinking and problem solving, while empowering the participants to use Shakespeare’s language and all language for more effective communication.

Shakespeare in the Park 2008: CORIOLANUS

For the 21st annual FREE Shakespeare in the Park, The Nashville Shakespeare Festival will produce CORIOLANUS, directed by Mark Cabus.

Shakespeare's play about a Roman war hero who runs for political office and finds himself in the center of a brutal power struggle should prove timely amidst the 2008 election cycle.  And of course, there will be plenty of action and excitement!

Community Partners:

"Shakespeare Knows Your Children" Scholar offers special class on parents and children in Shakespeare:

In close readings of scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, bard devotee CORA S. DOBSON will mine his genius for developing characters and relationships between parents and children. Cora, a longtime education volunteer at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., will
illuminate Shakespeare’s remarkable subtlety, economy and poetry in defining characters. Excerpts from Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, Henry IV, Part I, Henry V and The Tempest will be highlighted. As you laugh and cry, you will recognize these characters in your own life. No preparation necessary.

Date: Thursday, March 6, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

1 session
Course fee: $35
Location: University School of Nashville
